How long do you think it is going to last anyway? The batteries will keep it going fine like that for 5 years. It seems to prolong battery life over all and you get a longer time between full charges. If nothing else is saves electricity to not have the batteries charging all the time. (2) then fully charge the battery and use the device and recharge as needed.
